We had lots of kiddos absent last week due to illness. Please make sure you remind your kids how important it is to wash hands and not share water bottles or anything else that can transfer germs. I will be reminding them to wash their hands often at school and keep their hands away from their mouths and to cover their coughs. I heard more coughing last week that I've heard in a very long time! :(
The following forms need to be filled out, if you haven't already done so.
Reminders:
- No school Monday...it's Labor Day!
- We will have a guest speaker, Adam Winkler from KEYE Sports on Tuesday to talk to our 4th graders about the importance of writing in his job.
- The 5th graders of WBE have started a serving learning project called "Fill the Cup". It's a program by the World Food Program in which 25 cents help buy a meal for a child in a developing country. We are also accepting non-perishable food donations that will benefit the Austin area. Last week we talked about how important it is to help others in need when we are able to and how it should be done out of the goodness of our hearts. I encouraged all of your children to ask you to pick up one extra can of food this weekend at the grocery store or donate their snack money for one day to help others. Not only will we 'fill the cup', but we'll also 'fill our buckets'. :) Check out this PSA for the program.
- Grandparents Day Lunch is September 9th. Our lunch time is usually from 12:09-12:39, however, sometimes our lunch time is later on this day due to more people in the cafeteria.
What we're learning:
Math - place value (and practicing multiplication facts in our free moments)

Reading - characterization
Writing - parts of speech, editing, revising
